Blogging 101, Day Six: Make an Irresistable “About” Page

Today’s assignment: create and publish your About page, then either adapt it into a widget on your home page or add it to your menu.

I am no longer afraid to click buttons in WordPress so I think I am getting somewhere. I made so many drafts of my new About page…if you happened to visit between 5-8 p.m. ET last night you would have seen a zillion different versions of the page. I tried putting in photos – they seemed distracting, no matter how big or small I made them. I learned how to wrap text around a photo. I learned you cannot always import a photo from iMac Photos and that sometimes you have to save it to your desktop first. Of course somewhere along the line I found the “undo” button.

Blog To-Do ListI have not figured out if I can make my font bigger – I need it bigger. I also haven’t figured out how to put borders around photos. I also haven’t done part two of this assignment that said to add an “About” widget, but I’m thinking about it. I put it on “the list.” I have started a list as things pop into my mind. I’m a few days behind in Blogging 101 so I need to hop to it and save some stuff for later.

The WordPress lesson materials for this assignment had some helpful stuff on About page content. I totally chopped up what I had up there – which had been titled “What’s this blog?” I kept in mind the triple-stressed instructions that said to cut, cut and cut again, and about how “human minds can explode” if they see too long of a paragraph while reading online. I don’t think I chopped enough, but I am happy with it for now.

Today I also test out making and posting a very short and sweet blog post ;o)
