Blogging 101, Day 12: Increase Your Commenting Confidence

Today’s task: read six posts written in response to the same prompt, and leave comments on at least two of them.

I really messed up this assignment. I found myself writing about something from a different daily prompt.

I started out following the assignment’s directions by going to my WordPress prompt from July 20 and checking out some posts from other people who used the same prompt I did in Day 11 (the one about the wool being pulled over your eyes). Wow, there were a lot. I clicked on a random few, and then clicked around some more, and ended up liking a few, including a great random post that spoke to me on The Road Goes Ever On called Why? And How? (which had nothing to do with a WordPress prompt).

Then I decided that I would prefer to leave comments on the blogs of my fellow Blogging 101 classmates, so I went to the forum and scrolled back  – and scrolled and scrolled – to find people who posted from the same prompt that I did. During this exercise I happened to learn that there was a WordPress prompt on July 21 about music conjuring up memories, so of course I had to go investigate those posts. What a great prompt! Why didn’t I get that prompt? It asked:

A song comes on the radio and instantly, you’re transported to a different time and place. Which song(s) bring back memories for you and why? Be sure to mention the song, and describe the memory it evokes.

I commented on a post by From Egypt With Love, which is about  “My Experiences as a Western Woman in Egypt.” Such a relatable post despite the exciting un-relatable life adventure she is on.

I commented on a post by Crafty, Organized & Thin. Clever name to aspire to! Anyhoo, gosh she gives a raw story about certain songs that have the magic to send her back in time. It’s great and I loved it.

The newly discovered prompt struck me immediately because there is one song that is very potent when it comes to transporting me to a different time and place. It’s not one that anyone that knows me would ever guess. Although there are boatloads of songs that bring back memories – as that is pretty much the basis of this entire blog (!) – this particular song immediately comes to mind. It’s by the band Dirty Looks and the song is Cool From the Wire, which I occasionally hear on Sirius-XM Hairnation. It instantly transports me to a time (in the ’80s) and a place (in a parking garage in North Hollywood, to be exact) and it’s so freaky that I can’t explain it. It’s not necessarily good, but it’s not unpleasant. It’s reflective. Thinking about it, it actually brings me right back to my original Wordpress prompt about the wool being pulled over my eyes, because it wasn’t until later that I had this tremendous realization that the Universe, or a Guardian Angel, was looking over me in that time and place. It’s just there, plain as can be, like a big “duh.” That’s all I got on that for now ;o/.

The extra credit for the Day 12 assignment asks us to browse WordPress from a smart phone or tablet – this will certainly be done this week as I am off on a business trip to New York City tonight. The WordPress app is up and running on the phone and iPad so we’ll see how that goes ;o)

  1. Hey, rocksandy, thanks very much for the pingback and inclusion in your post. I must say I was delighted and I’m glad you liked it. I’m actually just listening to ‘Cool from the Wire’ right now, it’s great! I’m pretty much into the same type of music myself, but probably listen to newer bands that were probably influenced by bands like Dirty Looks. I have to say, Dirty Looks are pretty good (the second song just came on on Youtube). Like a fusion of Metallica and Gun’s n Roses. Thanks again! Tony.

    1. You’re welcome! I look forward to reading more from you ;o) And I’m so happy you found some “new” old music to listen – something I find myself doing more and more. Thank you for visiting and following!

      1. You’re very welcome. Thank you in turn for following and visiting. 🙂 I’ll probably share music from time to time that you might like, keep an eye out! 🙂

      2. You’re very welcome, and thanks for visiting and following me too 🙂 I’ll probably share some other music videos in the future that you may like, keep an eye out 🙂
