These are all of my concert ticket stubs from 1980-2015 that I managed to hang on to – I decided to inventory them by year(s). Enjoy the trip back in time to 1984 below…
This was the year after my high school graduation and the year my bff and I moved to Los Angeles, so this post has a variety of Tampa Bay Area and LA Sunset Strip scene stuff. At this point I was going to more clubs than concert venues so I don’t have as many ticket stubs (had lotsa hand stamps lol), but you get a little bit of The Roxy, the Greek Theater, and the Country Club in Reseda, along with some good ole Tampa Bay area venues.
L.A. – Slayer & Savage Grace & Thrust at the Country Club, Icon at the Country Club, Aerosmith & Black n’ Blue at the Greek Theater, Helix at the Roxy, Quiet Riot & Whitesnake & Armored Saint at the LA Fabulous Forum, Brooklyn Brats & Ruby Slippers & Rude Awakening at the Country Club
Heart with Helix on 2-12-1984 at the Tampa Jai Alai Fronton in Tampa, Florida. Cost $11.50. Ozzy Osbourne with Motley Crue on 2-23-1984 at the Lakeland Civic Center in Lakeland, Florida. Cost $12.50. I believe this was the tour stop at which Ozzy snorted ants, as told in The Dirt (Motley Crue band bio). Blue Oyster Cult with Aldo Nova on 3-18-84 at the Lakeland Civic Center Arena in Lakeland, Florida. Cost $12.50. Ah, one of our funniest stories – one that involves Aqua Net and Aldo Nova’s band members – happened behind this stadium that night ;oD. I love Aldo Nova’s Fantasy album – great road trip music.Motley Crue record signing event at Peaches Records & Tapes in Clearwater, Florida in 1984 (I’m pretty sure anyways, even though I wrote 1983 on the back of the photo). I can’t seem to find the exact date for this event, but I recall the store was a madhouse – I don’t think they expected the huge crowds that showed up. Notice the lack of sleeve tattoos. Yes, I did some pretty tight photo-snipping-collaging at some point – sorry about that. Girlschool with Prisoner & Nasty Savage on 3-27-1984 at the London Victory Club in Tampa, Florida. Cost $6.00. Prisoner was a local band featuring singer Kevin Steele of Roxx Gang. Nasty Savage was a local band from the world-famous Brandon (suburb of Tampa) death metal scene – I seem to remember the singer smashed tvs over his head.Ted Nugent with ? on 4-12-1984 at the Tampa Jai Alai Fronton in Tampa, Florida. Cost $12.00. I distinctly remember Bon Jovi was supposed to open and that’s why we were going, but then he blew up and went out on his own tour. But I ended up loving Ted’s singer Brian Howe, who sang on that tour (and who later ended up singing many hits for Bad Company in the ’90s). He sang on Side One of Ted’s Penetrator album, the most unheard of, but my favorite, Ted album (Side One anyways) – I have some of those songs in my workout folder today. Ozzy Osbourne with Motley Crue on 5-20-1984 at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida. Cost $12.50. Only a short time after they played in Lakeland in February – a very motley era. Slayer with Savage Grace and Thrust on 6-21-1984 at the Country Club in Reseda, California. Cost $6.50. I believe we went to see the band Thrust but I’m not sure. I can recall being at the Country Club for various shows but I simply don’t recall being there for any specific show. Another odd memory fail. Icon on 6-26-84 at the Country Club in Reseda, California. Cost $6.50. I don’t remember anything about this band, and Setlist.fm doesn’t have information on who the “RO” that is cut off might be. If anyone knows, please tell me. UPDATE: Thanks go to #analogkid6103 for letting me know that RO is Romeo, and that this was the KMET People’s Concert with Icon and Romeo! Aerosmith with Black ‘N Blue on 8-26-1984 at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, California. Cost $15. Thank goodness I wrote who it was on there in my 1984 handwriting, and thanks to setlist.fm for confirming the place and time. I have a vague recollection of trees when it comes to this venue. I love Black ‘N Blue. Hello! Miss Mystery! Helix on 9-12-1984 at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles (Hollywood?), California. Cost $11. Give me an R… I don’t remember much about this show, but my bff tells me she went despite having a 102 degree fever. Ah, youth. Quiet Riot with Armored Saint & Whitesnake on 9-29-1984 at the Fabulous Forum in Los Angeles, California. Thanks to rocktourdatase.com for info on the opening bands as I did not write that on the ticket, nor do I remember. Not sure if I didn’t go and that’s why it’s a full ticket…? But bff tells me we went to a party at Carlos Cavaso’s house afterwards, and I think I remember that – at a house slightly up the canyon off Ventura somewhere. We may never know ;o/Billy Squier with Ratt on 10-25-1984 at the Lakeland Civic Center Arena in Lakeland, Florida. Cost $13.75. Back home in Florida.Busch Gardens Halloween Rock Party on 10-26-1984 in Tampa, Florida. Cost $8.95. I can’t find anyone or anything that tells me who played at this show – but I remember going to see someone good. Setlist.fm shows the 1982 version as featuring local band Stranger and 1983 featured Savatage. It skips over 1984 – can anyone tell me who played?!REO Speedwagon with Zebra 12-14-1984 at the Lakeland Civic Center Arena in Lakeland, Florida. Cost $13.50.Brooklyn Brats with Ruby Slippers & Rude Awakening on 12-29-1884 at the Country Club in Reseda, California. Cost $7. I’m still wondering why I went back to L.A. for this trip – maybe to spend New Year’s Eve there? Bff says one us was seeing someone in Ruby Slippers and who later became her roommate. I’m glad some of us remember some things, geez.
Hi Rocksandy ! I have seen on Wikipedia that OZZY OSBOURNE / MOTLEY CRUE gig planned in Lakeland 23-2-1984 was postponed to 20th May 1984 in a different place Tampa – Sundome. Did you have any memories of this postponed gig ? Thanks again for your kindly attention !
My compliments again for you great website !
All The Best,
Alessandro
Yes, I do remember something about that! I’m going to check with a friend about that as my memories are, as usual, a jumble lol. Thank you so much for liking my site!!! I will try to respond again with more info…
The Halloween Rock Party at Busch Gardens was a Mega Costume Party which did have local bands playing but not any national name bands that I can recall. I went there with three off my best friends dressed as military men and toy water guns . This was the only year Busch Gardens served unlimited Free Beer at every corner ,not just at the courtsy parlor where you could only get two small cups a day . The following year, they did the Halloween Bash again but did not do the free beer because all the drunks that caused problem that year. And Yes, I still got my ticket too.
