Riki and Taime’s World Famous Cathouse – Part 2

As a last hurrah from the recent flurry of all that is and was The World Famous Cathouse, and as promised from Part 1, I’ve dug out the old Cathouse flyers and mailers I’ve managed to hang on to all these years. There are four from mid to late 1987, and one from September 1988 – I have no idea what happened to the ones in between.

The first one, which is four pages, tells a pretty good story about the club’s inception and opening on September 22, 1986, and eventual move to a new location on August 4, 1987. The others talk about what’s going on with L.A. bands at the time – who’s on tour and who’s in the studio, as well as notices about Cathouse events. Fun stuff to check out.

Happy Cathouse reading! ;o)

Cathouse Flyer - Pink pg 1 of 4
Page 1 of 4 – This is undated but this 4-part flyer talks about the last night at the old location on July 28, 1987 and moving to the new location as of August 4, 1987.

Cathouse Flyer pg 2 of 4
Page 2 of 4 – Ah, typewriters and typos. Good history of the club here.

Cathouse flyer pg 3 of 4
Page 3 of 4 – Moving to have clean glasses?

Cathouse flyer pg 4 of 4
Page 4 of 4 – This is apparently the form I used to get my membership card (see Part 1).

Cathouse flyer - blue pg 1 of 2
Page 1 of 2 – A much better looking flyer – undated but talks about making the move and upcoming events in September 1987.

Cathouse flyer - blue page 2
Page 2 of 2 – Slash may not have been thrown out but I saw him CARRIED OUT,  not once but twice. It took two guys – Slash had his arms around each guy’s shoulder, and each guy carried a leg. And I want to say both times I saw this he was being carried out just as I was going in.

Cathouse mailer pink pg 1 of 2
Page 1 of 2 – Postmarked 10/26/87 – I’m sad I don’t remember the Black ‘N Blue show…but of course that doesn’t mean I wasn’t there (damn CRS).

Cathouse mailer pink pg 2 of 2
Page 2 of 2 – It wasn’t really a movie called “The Metal Years” but actually Penelope Spheeris’ documentary Decline of the Western Civilization: Part II, The Metal Years. I remember being there for that.

Cathouse Halloween Party flyer directions
I got nothing in the memory banks about this one.

Cathouse mailer yellow pg 1 of 2
Page 1 of 2 – Postmarked 9-14-88 – Mentions the two year anniversary.

Cathouse mailer yellow page 2 of 2
Page 2 of 2 – Ah, seeing the old North Hollywood apartment address brings back memories of the sounds of a gas station and Jack In the Box drive-thru…

  1. Wow RockSandy, I can’t believe you still have all these old newsletters and flyers, and that they are still in such good condition this many years later! I used to love the Cathouse, but then who didn’t?! And I so share your affliction of CRS, because I don’t remember it on LaCienega (maybe i was not in LA at that time? We missed each other a lot with our moving back and forth from east coast to west lol) but neither do I remember having to flash a membership card when it was on Highland. i do remember many great nights rocking out to awesome bands though, surprisingly, given the number of times we got inebriated there lol. Yay for designated drivers, may the gods always bless those who don’t like to drink and don’t mind driving around their friends who do, lol! I love your blog, it’s always an exercise for those memory brain cells as you take us on those fun trips down memory lane, navigating us past the pretty long haired rocker boys and drink glasses (even the clean ones!) that pave the path. Woot!
